Drunk Rock review on The Punk Site

CD: Drunk Rock
Artist: The Bloody Irish Boys
Label: Sick Sad Records
Rating: 4/5
Best Song: Full Moon

I may have only just recently got the CD, but I already know I'm in love with it. Because from the instant I popped this CD into my CD player I knew it wouldn't be seeing much else, because I'd be happy to just sit back and let The Bloody Irish Boys bombard me with their beer soaked tunes for hours.

Drunk Rock full of hard hitting, energizing punk rock tunes fused with traditional irish and bluegrass melodies, making for a thirteen track rock and roll riot. Fans of bands like Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys and to a lesser extent, The Tossers, will instantly fall in love with the CD as soon as they jump into Emniscorthy in a Bottle, and the bane never lets up.

They fly through song after song about drinking, drinking, and drinking some more - and yet, they don't get repetitive. There are the perfect bar room sing along drinking songs like Drunk Tonight, Drink Drink Drink, Rare Auld Extra Stout and one of my favorites, Beer Is Good, Beer Is Great. At the same time, the band also has a few songs showing more tradition Irish values: the importance of family. Standing With Me is moving song about Shayne Underwood's grandfather (There's many things that I forgot through my life / But there's one thing that wont leave / That's the memory of my grandpa standing in that old house / Playing that old six string) and Full Moon looks at a relationship between father and son. And of course, they have two traditional songs: Finnegan's Wake and The Highlander's Farewell for you to enjoy.

Drunk Rock surprised me, I knew it would be okay, but I had no idea it would be this impressive. Its intense rock melded with traditional elements, making for a very energetic album that would sound good as we downed a pint of Guinness with your dad. This is their debut and I can't wait to see what else they come out with. A Flogging Molly fan must-have.
